My Steinway Upright Needs a New Home. Seriously...
I have this awesome, ebony Steinway K-132 in perfect condition with built in silent mode and a GT-90 midi sound module sitting in our temperature and humidity controlled living room.
I currently have two Steinway pianos in my living room. Actually, I don't really want to part with this beautiful instrument but, understandably, I have the potential to make a musician really happy and my wife even happier if I sell just one of my pianos. So, here's the deal...
If you're looking for a space saving instrument and don't want to sacrifice on sound quality, this K-132 is the perfect solution for you. This is a really special upright piano. The vertically positioned soundboard is larger than in many baby grands so you get an amazing, full sound that Steinway is famous for.
In 2000 I bought it new in Zurich for Fr. 42,000.
In 2022 I played 18 different uprights in 2 different shops and could not find a single one that sounds as beautiful as my K-132!
(even Bosendorfers selling for 50K!)
It seems like I was really lucky to be able to purchase this particular instrument (so many other pianos I played sounded inferior by comparison)
I'm looking forward to your best offer.

Experience STEINWAY
The STEINWAY & SONS name has stood for the finest grand and upright pianos since 1853. Made with the greatest care, best materials and no compromises, our pianos are prestigious instruments par excellence. The role played by the STEINWAY professionals is impossible to exaggerate, as it is due to their dedication to absolute perfection that STEINWAY has been and continues to remain the gold standard for sound, feel, beauty and investment value.
A STEINWAY piano, the gold standard amongst musical instruments, has for over 160 years stood for commitment to the finest craftsmanship and uncompromising expression. These are the reasons why 19 out of 20 concert pianists opt for a STEINWAY – and why the STEINWAY piano has come to be considered the centrepiece of a cultured home all around the world.
"We build our pianos to match the expectations of the world’s most demanding critics.
— people who love music."
96 Percent of All Concert Pianists Choose STEINWAY
Take your time when selecting your grand or upright piano. We want you to be able to enjoy it for a long time. For this reason STEINWAY put together many useful tips in a single Buyer's Guide, available here for you to download:
In addition to your personal musical requirements, the size of the room where your upright or grand piano will stand is of crucial importance. Sound quality and volume are directly related to the size of the soundboard and the length of the strings. In other words, the larger the instrument is, the fuller its sound will be.
UPRIGHT OR GRAND PIANO
If you have enough space and your budget allows it, you should choose a grand piano. Please be aware, however, that a top-class upright piano is always a better choice than an inferior grand.
The essential difference between an upright and a grand, apart from the external appearance and size, is the position of the soundboard. In a grand piano, the soundboard and strings are positioned horizontally, whereas in an upright piano, they are positioned vertically.
Do you know the difference between STEINWAY'S grand and upright pianos? When it comes to production criteria, we cannot see one. Both types are manufactured at the same location, using the same materials, technologies and production processes – the professionals constructing our upright pianos are the same ones who construct our grand pianos too. The quality of our upright pianos is therefore of the highest level. The only difference that distinguishes Steinway upright pianos from STEINWAY grand pianos is their vertical shape. The utmost attention to detail and countless patented processes and special construction features (such as the soundboard and Hexagrip pinblock) result in an upright piano considered by many music lovers to be the world's best.
The K-132
"Wonderfully balanced keys and action, broad spectrum of sound, terrific volume: the STEINWAY K-132 upright piano is the perfect instrument for uncompromising musical pleasure when space is too tight for a grand piano."
Brand new, the K-132 sells for Fr. 43,500 right now in Zurich at Music Hug. They even have a used model from 1998 WITHOUT silencer or midi interface selling it for Fr. 25,000. That particular piano was not stored in a humidity controlled room and it needs repairs to perform that the Steinway standard. My K-132 however is in perfect condition and needs no repairs. It will however need regular tuning as do all fine instruments.
Investment Considerations
Times change and markets rise and fall – but for more than one and a half centuries each handmade Steinway instrument has increased in value.
Steinway pianos have established a history of legendary financial appreciation over the course of more than 160 years. Owning a Steinway piano is a rare opportunity to invest in beauty, craftsmanship, endurance, performance and joy. A 50-year-old Steinway commands a price more than nine times its original cost. The best time to invest in a Steinway grand or upright piano is always the same: today.
That’s because, when factory prices of new Steinway pianos increase, the value of existing Steinway pianos also rise. Here is a report on the investment opportunity described above.
“A Steinway that is ten - twenty years old and in good condition normally sells for around 80% of the current retail price, which increases each year by about 4%.”
REUTERS, 2003
“Steinway pianos don't only set the benchmark in terms of sound, touch, quality craftsmanship – and beauty. However, in addition to all the musical pleasures, these masterpieces of craftsmanship are an exceptional investment that pays off in the long term.”
WELT AM SONNTAG, 2011
A TONE SILENCER
DEVELOPED BY AND FOR MUSICIANS
perfekt für Musiker mit Nachbarn
While everyone enjoys a piano concert, there are times when silence is needed or very much appreciated. With the silencer built into my STEINWAY K-132, you can practice without disturbing family members, co-workers, or neighbors.
The additional advantage I built into this K-132 is the GT-90 midi interface. It's the perfect solution for the professional pianist since it offers you a touch sensitive digital piano built right into the finest acoustic instrument in the world. In essence, it's a hybrid piano with MIDI and silent functions.
